Getting Started in Farm Forestry

Farm forestry provides another means of diversifying your income base. If properly thought through - as part of a business or property management plan, for instance - it could increase your property's income.  With every passing year, commodity prices for traditional rural activities drift slowly downwards.

Treating tree growing as a commercial enterprise could help fill the gap. As well as being another way to divide your eggs among different baskets, commercial tree crops can complement agriculture and protect your land, water and wildlife. There are only two right times to plant trees. One was 20 years ago. The other is right now.

The Getting Started in Farm Forestry publication provides an overview of the steps involved in getting started in farm forestry.  To access the publication, click on the link below.
